What is it like to be in counselling together?

In our work together, we will mostly engage in conversations in sessions, which includes me reflecting back what you are sharing and asking questions to explore more about who you are.

In exploring your different parts, I may ask questions about how you notice a part’s presence, including sensations in and around your body, certain nameable emotions, or in ways of thinking. As we get to know one another, we can continue to notice your parts, and give space to your internal world and landscape.

I also believe in the importance of connecting with our bodies, including building awareness of the ways emotional experiences are present within our bodies. During sessions, I can ask you questions to bring attention to what you are noticing in your body. Together, we can safely explore what is coming up and how you can hold space for and tend to it in the moment.  We can also dedicate specific time in sessions to practice grounding.

I believe my role is to hold curiosity and compassion for all that you share with me, and to welcome all parts of you, no matter how big, scary, uncertain, or “weird” they may feel. I invite you into this place of curiosity with me.
